Frequently Asked Questions

Alusonic is an Italian maker of basses and guitars built with aircraft-grade aluminium, carbon fibre and selected woods. Founded in 2010 by Andrea “Polly” Pollice and based in Morciano di Romagna, near Rimini, it offers solid-aluminium, hybrid (wood body with an aluminium or carbon top) and all-wood instruments, plus a custom shop.

Andrea “Polly” Pollice is the founder of Alusonic. The brand started in 2010 in Morciano di Romagna, near Rimini, Italy. Custom build requests sent through this website are followed up personally by Polly.

Alusonic instruments are made in Italy. The workshop and head office are at Via Serrata 4a, 47833 Morciano di Romagna (Rimini), where visits are by appointment. Alusonic designs its instruments and their components and works with specialist Italian partners for parts of the production.

An aluminium bass has a body milled from a solid block of aircraft-grade aluminium alloy (Alusonic has used Anticorodal and Ergal), hollowed internally. Alusonic describes the sound as fast in attack, long in sustain and warm in the low end. In a 2023 Bass Musician Magazine review, bassist Alberto Rigoni called the Django Supreme 5 “punchy, defined and super versatile”. Sound is personal: try one in a showroom.

Reported strengths of aluminium bodies are strong attack and sustain and shielding against electromagnetic interference. The main trade-off is weight: the solid-aluminium Supreme models on this site weigh about 3.9 to 4.1 kg, more than many wooden basses. Hybrid models, with a chambered wooden body and an aluminium or carbon top, are lighter.

A hybrid Alusonic bass pairs a chambered wooden body (alder, swamp ash or sassafras) with a top in aircraft-grade aluminium or carbon fibre. The wooden body keeps the weight around 3.2 to 3.9 kg on the hybrid models listed here, while the top adds attack and definition. Examples are the Django Deluxe, Django GTS/H, J-Special Deluxe and The Doom.

Alusonic uses carbon fibre as a top or shell over wood or aluminium bodies. Hybrid models such as the Django Deluxe, Django GTS/H, Quadraflex and The Doom can be ordered with an aluminium or carbon fibre top, and the Django Supreme Carbon pairs an aluminium body with a carbon fibre shell.

Yes. Alusonic pickups, preamps and bridges are proprietary designs, made with specialist Italian partners: Alusonic Hybrid Alnico 5/neodymium pickups, the PentaFleX and QuadraFleX pickups and an Alusonic aluminium bridge. On request, custom pickups and electronics can be fitted instead.

Chris Wolstenholme of Muse plays Alusonic basses on the 2026 tour, according to Premier Guitar. Skunk Anansie bassist Cass Lewis has a signature Alusonic bass, and in 2016 the band presented Skin’s new guitar, handmade by Polly at Alusonic. Justin Lockey of Editors has played a T-Special/P90 guitar live, and Japanese bassist Pinkhage has a signature model. See the Artists page.

Yes. Premier Guitar’s Muse “Rig Rundown” (9 September 2026) reports that Wolstenholme’s new Alusonic basses replace the Status basses he had played for over a decade. According to Alusonic, the Chris Wolstenholme 4 Signature was developed with Muse’s team and used on The WoW! Signal and the 2026 world tour.

Cass Lewis has been an Alusonic endorser for years. His signature model is a custom Django Supreme 4 whose aluminium body is covered in carbon fibre (the Django Supreme Carbon). In July 2023 No Treble also reviewed the Django Deluxe 4 Cass Lewis, with a chambered swamp-ash body and Alusonic hybrid pickups. Alusonic also offers a Django Standard 5 “Cass Lewis” custom model.

Yes. In February 2016 Skunk Anansie presented “Skin and her new guitar, handmade courtesy of @alusonic – made by Polly”. Alusonic also offers the Hybrid T90 “Skin” guitar.

Pinkhage is a Japanese bassist and YouTuber who became an Alusonic endorser in November 2020. His signature bass is a J-Special Deluxe 5 with a chambered swamp-ash body, a flamed aluminium top, custom Delano split-coil pickups and a dedicated 3-band preamp.

Yes. Alusonic builds custom instruments. On the Contact page a short step-by-step request asks for the instrument type, the model, the number of strings for basses, the finish, your electronics and hardware wishes, and your contact details. Polly then replies personally to refine the details.

Visits are by appointment at two Italian showrooms: the head office in Morciano di Romagna (Rimini) and Carrara, run by bassist Luca Silvestri. Partner dealers are Geek in Box in Yokohama, Japan, and Bass Direct in the United Kingdom. See the Showroom page.

Yes. The Alusonic workshop offers setup, electronics work, fret dressing, polishing, refinishing and CNC milling for electric guitars and basses of every brand. Details and timing are agreed case by case: see the Repairs page.

Choose by construction. Django Standard and Basic are all-wood entry points; Django Deluxe, Django GTS/H (headless), J-Special Deluxe and The Doom (multi-scale 36″/34″) are hybrids with an aluminium or carbon top; Django Supreme and J-Special Supreme are carved from solid aluminium. Most lines come in 4- and 5-string versions. Browse all models.

Django is Alusonic’s own body shape; J-Special is its reinterpretation of the classic J-style bass, with a Hybrid soapbar pickup. Both come in 4- and 5-string versions with a 34″ scale, in all-wood, hybrid and solid-aluminium builds.
